PRESQUE ISLE – Amy P. Knight, 96, went home to be with the Lord Oct. 8, 2005, at the Aroostook Health Center, in Mars Hill. Amy was born Nov. 5, 1908, in Caswell, the daughter of Austin A. and Levonia (Gilman) Barnes. She was a graduate of Limestone High School and studied and practiced nursing at Presque Isle General Hospital prior to her marriage to Vaughn D. Knight Nov. 9, 1935, she then became a fulltime housewife and mother. She was a long-term member of the State Street Baptist Church, where she was a member of the church choir and a Sunday school teacher in earlier years. Amy is survived by her devoted family, a son, Ronald D. Knight and his wife, Ann; a daughter, Rita D. Knight, all of Presque Isle; a sister, Belva “Dolly” Morris of Limestone; a brother, Charles Barnes and his wife, Annes, of Greenland, N.H. Amy’s three grandsons, Jason R. Knight and his wife, Allison, of New Gloucester, Ryan D. Knight of Bucksport and Darren A. Knight of Presque Isle, brought much love and sunshine into her life. She was blessed to have lived to see and visit with her great-granddaughter, Madison Olivia, daughter of Jason and Allison; several cousins and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Amy was predeceased by her husband, Vaughn, May 31, 1986; brothers, Harold, Loomis and Woodrow Barnes; sisters, Leona Berube and Levonia Barnes. Amy was fondly known as “Sally” by her family and caregivers and will be remembered for her humor and quick wit. The family would like to publicly express appreciation to all the staff at the Aroostook Health Center for the loving concern and care given to Amy and to them during the past several years. At Amy’s request, there will no calling hours or funeral. A graveside committal service for the family will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 11 at Fairmount Cemetery with Pastor Mike Shaw of the State Street Baptist Church officiating.
