CHERRYFIELD and DEER ISLE – Andrew P. Smith, 54, went to be with his Lord, Tuesday, Nov 6, 2007, while residing at Duston Foster Home, Cherryfield. “Andy” was born June 26, 1953, in New York, son of Ann and Andrew C. Smith. Andy was proud of his community service work, which included working at the Food Pantry and Recycle Shop at Weald Bethel and volunteering at Bird’s Acre, Ellsworth. He was a Boy Scout with Troop 139 and a venturer with Venture Scout Troop 539. He was an avid walker and especially proud of his 50-mile badge. He looked forward to his time at Camp Roosevelt and participation in the Special Olympics. Andy leaves all those who knew him with the understanding that love and respect for all of God’s children is the fundamental of life.In addition to his mother, Ann Smith of Deer Isle, he is survived by his twin brother and housemate, Richard “Ricky” Smith of Cherryfield; his brother and guardian, Ted Smith of Blue Hill; brothers, Michael, Scott and William; sisters, Penny and Marianne; several in-laws, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his father, Andrew Smith; and his younger brother, Eddie Smith. He will be greatly missed by caregivers and friends who loved him and learned from him, including Alice and Peter Duston, Trisha Robinson, Beverly Sovet, Sarah Hurlburt, Janet Christrop, Trish Rossi, Marcia Ladrigan, Wayne Trunk, Heidi Harrington, the entire Duston/Yates family, and his Cherryfield Congregational Church family. A celebration of Andy’s life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at First Congregational Church of Cherryfield, with the Rev. Joseph Palmer presiding.
