EASTPORT – Ann Cecelia Cummings, 89, went to be with her Lord Thursday, Aug. 24, 2006, at a Calais hospital. Ann was born Aug. 17, 1917, in Cleveland, Ohio, daughter of the late Mathew and Anna (Ruditus) Kavol. She worked as a certified nursing assistant for area nursing homes. Ann was a member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Eastport, co-founder and second president of the Eastport Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, past president of the Eastport Jr. Round Table, past chief of Pythian Sisters Seaside Temple No. 59, past member of Eastport Ambulance Service and a volunteer in cancer research. She enjoyed traveling, reading, cooking, gardening and most importantly, spending time with her family. Ann was predeceased by her loving husband of 49 years, Theodore A. Cummings; a sister, Frances Ellison; and a brother, William Kavol. Surviving are her children, Jerome Wise and wife, Carol, of Melbourne, Fla., Diane Hicks and husband, Ralph, of Eastport and Barbara Hicks and husband, Walter, of Fort Myers, Fla.; four grandchildren, Barbara McElfresh of Charleston, S.C., Barbara DeWitt of Perry, Christopher Hicks of West Chester, Pa., and Adam Hicks of Derry, N.H.; 13 great-grandchildren, Alicia, Brandon, Christopher, Theodore, who is currently serving in Iraq, Celia, Michael, Chandler, Camryn, Hayden, Haley, Kyle, Adison, and Linnea. A graveside service will be held 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, at Hillside Cemetery, Eastport, with Pastor Robie Locke officiating. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home – Flagg Chapel, Eastport.
