CALAIS – Ann Jean Papke, 70, died peacefully Jan. 12, 2007, at home. She was born Feb. 14, 1936, in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., the daughter of Henry and Lillian Fuller. Ann was employed over the years mostly in health care, starting at the nursing home in Calais, then going on to work for Gene Newell and his ambulance service and at Calais Regional hospital in various departments. The one thing that could be said about Ann was her tireless work ethic, at times working two full-time jobs to raise her family. Those who knew Ann in her retirement years marveled at her resiliency to bounce back from the ravages of diabetes. She enjoyed attending church and was active in the congregation, until her disabilities became too much. One of her cherished pastimes was to read, until her vision was lost. In addition to her parents, Ann was predeceased by a grandson, Jacob. Surviving are her children, Robin Gray and her partner, Dennis, of Eddington, Robert Papke of Washington state, Tamey and her husband, Kerry Holmes, of Alexander, Sally Webb of San Antonio, John and his wife, Bette, of Princeton, David and his partner, Valeda, of Las Vegas, Chantel Barker and her partner, Jake, of Thunderbolt, Ga., and Deborah Bryant and her husband, Rodney, of Gorham; a brother, John Fuller and his wife, Deborah, of Saratoga Springs, N.Y. She will be greatly missed by her 10 grand-children, Troy, Wade, Jessica, Nicholas, Ashley, Paige, Myranda, Anneka, Ava and Alexandra; three great-grand-daughters Kayli, Emily and Alexis; and a special nephew, John; and niece, Jennifer. The family would like to thank Dr. Mansoor and the Dialysis Center in Eastport for the care and treatment she received. In keeping with her request, Ann will be cremated. A private service will be held at a later date. Any donations in her memory should be made to the American Diabetes Association or PAWS Animal Shelter, Calais. A cremation service by Mays Funeral Home, Calais. Friends may pay tribute at www.maysfuneralhome.com
