WARREN – Anna Belle Barrett Maxcy, 83, died Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, at Harbor Hill in Belfast. Mrs. Maxcy was born May 20, 1921, in Mars Hill, the daughter of Dennison E. and Edna A. Barrett. She was a graduate of Presque Isle High School, Aroostook State Normal School, and the University of Maine in Orono. She married Lloyd Maxcy on Feb. 11, 1943, in South Warren, and had been a lifelong resident there. Mrs. Maxcy was a schoolteacher for 30 years, having taught in Waldoboro and Warren until her retirement in 1977. She was an active community member and served for many years as curator of the Warren Historical Society. Mrs. Maxcy was a member of the Second Congregational Church. She was a member of the Ladies’ Social Circle, the King’s Daughters, and the choir. She served as a member of the Diaconate for many years. Being an avid quilter, she belonged to the Good Intentions Quilters and the Pine Tree Quilters of Maine. She was also a member of the Easter Star Ivy Chapter No. 16. She was predeceased by her husband, Lloyd Maxcy, in 1987; and a brother, Fred Barrett. Survivors include two sons, Charles Maxcy and his wife, Paula, Richard Maxcy and his wife, Irene; a sister, Vella Smith and her husband, Casey; two brothers, Edward Barrett and his wife, Nancy, Frank Barrett and his wife, Yvonne, all of Warren; five grandchildren, Steven Maxcy and his wife, Deborah, of Saco, Darren Maxcy and his wife, Kimberly, of Bristol, Jennifer Grover and her husband, Mark, of New Gloucester, Jessica Maxcy and Jonathan Maxcy, both of Warren; six great-grandchildren, Lydia Maxcy of Saco, Barrett Maxcy, Dennison Maxcy, Kalob Eaton, Kaitlyn Eaton and Karidene Eaton, all of Bristol, many nieces and nephews. A remembrance service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004, at the Second Congregational Church, Main Street, Warren, with the Rev. Robin Honniker and the Rev. Irven Gammon officiating. Interment will be at the Counce Cemetery in South Warren. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Maine Alzheimer’s Foundation, 163 Lancaster St., Portland, ME 04101. Arrangements are entrusted to Hall Funeral Home, Waldoboro.
