MACHIAS – On Jan. 20, 2004, Anna Lee Jipson Scribner went to be with the Lord after a courageous battle with breast cancer. She was born Nov. 14, 1949. Anna Lee grew up on a farm in rural Webster Plantation, graduated from Lee Academy and received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Maine. She began her teaching career at Greenville High School, continued at the Rose M. Gaffney Elementary School in Machias, and taught Home Economics for 15 years at Washington Academy in East Machias. Anna Lee was an active member of the community, participating in the University Women’s Club, the Rose M. Gaffney Parent Teacher Club and the annual Komen Main Race for the Cure. She was close to nature and enjoyed growing flowers and participating in many outdoor activities. But her favorite roles to fill were that of devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, and most recently, grandmother. Anna Lee is survived by her loving husband, Rick and caring children, Andy and Rob and his wife, Jen and their daughter, Angie Beau; her father and mother, Hazen and Theo Jipson Sr. of Webster Plantation; her six siblings, Bonita E. and Kenneth Whiting of Danforth, Sue and Dennis Irish of Lincoln, Nicky and Francis Jandreau of Lincoln, Hazie and Robin Jipson Jr. of Webster Plantation, Brian and Karyl Jipson of Webster Plantation, and Betty and Lincoln Herschel of Carmel. Anna Lee is also survived by her father and mother-in-law, Claude and Charlene Scribner of Lee and her sisters-in-law, Jane and Bruce Clendenin of Palm Coast, Fla., Claudette and Carroll Albert of Lee; and many, many other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, at the Centre Street Congregational Church in Machias. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Susan G.
