HANCOCK – Anna Pomroy, 91, died March 4, 2008, at an Ellsworth hospital. She was born March 14, 1916, the foster daughter of the late William and Mary Boyden of Massachusetts. She was employed by the Tufts family for 27 years and worked at Britt’s for seven years. She enjoyed knitting and reading. She was a member of Hancock Congregational Church and former member of the Eastern Star of Sullivan. She is survived by a dear friend, Alice Tufts of Lewiston; two foster nephews, Joseph Tufts III and Janet Shorey of Scarborough, and their son, Todd Tufts and family, of Connecticut, Timothy Tufts and wife, Irene, of Hancock; one foster niece, Mary Elizabeth Brushwein and husband, Phillip, of Danville, and their daughter, Elizabeth; two stepdaughters, Emma Dow of Augusta and Edith Wells of Clinton, Conn.; one stepson, Milton Carter and wife, Mary, of Tunk Lake; several stepgrandchildren and great-step-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband, Elmer Carter Sr., in 1970; and second husband, Earl Pomroy, in 1987. Calling hours will be held 9:30-11 a.m. Monday, March 10, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. A graveside service will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Hancock, in the spring.
