BREWER – Anne K. Piper, 76, wife of Philip E. Piper, died March 5, 2006, at her daughter’s home in Bethel, Ohio, surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 10, 1929, in Augusta, the daughter of Harry G. and Nellie M. (Temple) Katsikas. Anne grew up and attended schools in Augusta, graduating from Cony High School in 1947 and attended the Maine School of Photography in Bangor. She married Philip E. Piper in 1949. She and her husband operated Philip E. Piper Funeral Home in Brewer for many years. She and her husband were founding members of St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, Brewer, where she served as the secretary of the church and on the alter guild for many years. She was instrumental in creating and was thoroughly dedicated to the St. Patrick’s Ecumenical Food Cupboard, now the Brewer Christian Food Cupboard. Anne served as a member of the Brewer Community Service Council for many years and was the head of a program to provide corrective eyewear to children in need. She delivered Meals for ME with her husband and was a member of the Brewer Garden Club. Anne is survived by her husband of 56 years of Brewer; seven children, Philip E. Piper Jr. and his wife, Patricia, of Augusta, David H. Piper of Port Charlotte, Fla., Sue Ellen Campbell and her husband, William, of Bethel, Ohio, Terrance C. Piper and his wife, Cheryl, of Hampden, Mark E. Piper and his wife, Linda, of Buxton, Janis L. Piper of Brewer and Pennie L. Duff and her husband, Maurice, of Brewer; 15 grandchildren, Tammy L. Foster and her husband, Andrew and Keri-Anne Foster and her husband, Curtis, both of Dover-Foxcroft, Philip E. Piper III and his fiance, Erica, of LaGrange, April Henry and her husband, Michael, of Newmarket, N.H., Kenneth W. Campbell of Burbank, Calif., Gregory G. Campbell of New York, N.Y., Heather M. Umel and her husband, Benjamin, Jenifer McKenney and her husband, Jerry, Neil W. Piper and Ryan M. Piper, all of Brewer, Allan D. Piper, Daniel S. Piper and Matthew T. Piper, all of Buxton, Gavin A. Duff and Elizabeth A. Duff, both of Brewer; 11 great-grandchildren, Morgan Foster, A.J. and Daisy Foster, Hunter, Braiden, Riley and Prestin Umel, Tatiana Piper, Chase McKenney and Abigail and Alexander Henry. She was predeceased by her one brother, John Katsikas. Family and friends may visit 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 9, at Kiley Funeral Home, 69 State St., Brewer. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, March 10, at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, Brewer, with the Rev. Dr. Barbara J. Clarke, officiating. Burial will be at Pine Grove Cemetery, Bangor. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio and Vitas Innovative Hospice Care for their care and compassion.
