ELLSWORTH, BUCKSPORT and ORONO – Barbara Hazel Joslin passed away Feb. 24, 2006. She was born March 3, 1922, in Arlington, Mass., the daughter of Beatrice and Ervin Thurston of Bucksport. She was a loving woman who cared for all and was armed with a sharp wit to match her soft heart. Barbara briefly served in the Coast Guard during World War II and earned her nursing license while living in Miami, Fla. She was a world traveler, living in Argentina and Mexico, as well as visiting several countries. She settled down in Georgia before moving to Ellsworth. After 15 years on Graham Lake, she spent the last years of her life in Orono. Her competitive spirit, intelligence, open mind and great sense of humor will be missed. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert; and sons, Kenneth and Peter. She is survived by her daughters, Jocelyn Russell and Cindy Tillman; son, Philip Joslin and his wife, Julia; her grandchildren, Evan Tillman, Benjamin Joslin, Bryce Joslin and Rebekah Joslin; niece, Jean Poulin and her daughter, Gina; nephews, Bob and Dick Thurston and their wives, Betty and June; sister-in-law and best friend, Bertha Higgins; and countless other friends and family. A memorial service will be held June 2006, at the Methodist Church in East Bucksport. In lieu of flowers, you may send a donation to the East Bucksport Methodist Church.
