WESTON – Ardis Maxine (Cleaves) Adams, 82, loving wife, mother, friend and neighbor, passed from this life Jan. 25, 2004, at her home. She was born Feb 20, 1921, in Haynesville, to Elbridge and Orris (Gilpatrick) Cleaves. On Dec. 17, 1941, she married Glenn C. She worked for the state of Connecticut for 27 years and as an administrator of a Group Home in Torrington, Conn., when she retired in 1982. She traveled to many different places and had wonderful stories to tell. She “worked” for Loughlin Black at Black’s General Store for many years, where she became a fixture for residents and visitors, who looked for her smiling face and friendly words. She was an international “goodwill friend,” having many close friends across the border. Her little red house on the hill was a landmark that many knew and loved. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Patricia Ann Oliver; her sisters, Lois Lloyd and Marie Black; and her brothers, Sandy Cleaves, Arthur Cleaves and Alonzo Cleaves. She leaves a son she loved, Glenn C. Adams Jr. and his wife, Elizabeth “Betsy,” of Bridgewater, Conn.; and a daughter, Alicia F. (Adams) Silkey and her husband, Terry A. Silkey, of Orient; grandsons, Michael S. Roma and his wife, Heidi, Patrick L. Roma, Brian M. Roma and his friend, Kelly Ison, Jason M. Adams and his wife, Geri; her “shining stars” that made her last few years very happy, great-grandsons, Zachary, Deegan and Tristan Roma and Joshua Ison; her sisters, Irma Hess and Arthur of Haynesville, and Vina Hewson and William of Warwick, R.I.; and many nieces and nephews whom she loved very much. Ardis was an animal lover and her special cat, who stayed by her bedside, “Simmy Sam,” will miss her greatly. Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Clay Funeral Home-Bartlett Chapel, 24 Houlton Road, Danforth (scarves are optional.)
