GORHAM – Ardyth N. Rand Webb passed away Jan. 16, 2007, at the Gorham House. Born April 17, 1920, in Aroostook County, she was the daughter of Edward and Rose Patterson Rand. She attended Boston University, and then graduated college in her later years from Gorham State Teacher’s College. She became a first grade teacher at George E. Jack School, Standish, for more than 10 years. When she returned from Boston Univesity, she married Dwight G. Webb of Gorham, Oct. 14, 1939. Together 50 years, they raised five children and became very involved with the Gorham community. Among many interests, she enjoyed gardening, music and writing children stories. She was president of the Gorham Women’s Club, two terms – during which their successful cookbook “Cooking with a Maine Accent” was completed; member of the Cosmopolitan Club, Gorham Garden Club and an active leader in Campfire Girls. The family was a member of the First Parish Congregational Church, Gorham Village. Later, she was a very active member of the West Gorham Union Church, singing in the church choir, teaching Sunday school, taking leadership roles, helping organize the Saturday bean suppers and running the jewelry table at the church fairs. Being very committed to the political beliefs of our country, she volunteered regularly at every election time, assisting at the polls. She was compassionate about life and a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and dear aunt to her many nieces and nephews. She had a long fulfilling life, touching many lives along the way. Ardyth is survived by two daughters, Dauna W. Binder of Portland and Deborra W. Lundberg and her husband, Derek, of Vista, Calif.; three sons, Brian and his wife, Jane Webb, of Westbrook, Michael and his wife, Joanne Webb, of Bridgton and Dwight R. and his wife, Gail Webb, of Parkland, Fla.; a brother, Beverly P. Rand of Island Falls; a sister, Elgah Rand of Houlton; 12 grandchildren and five great-grand-children. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Gorham House for their kindness to our mother. We will honor her life and celebrate memories during visiting hours, 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Dolby & Dorr Funeral Chapel, 76 State St., Gorham. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, at West Gorham Union Church, 190 Ossippee Trail, Gorham, with the Rev. Lakeman and the Rev. Shearman officiating. Interment will be in Sherman Mills in the spring.
