SEARSPORT – Arlene Bennett Otis, 87, died peacefully July 5, 2004, at her home. She was born July 1, 1917, in Searsmont, the daughter of Loren and Ivie Evans Bennett. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Searsport where she taught Sunday School. She was a member of the Grange for 71 years in Hope, Camden, Stockton Springs, Swanville, and Searsport. She was Past Noble Grand of the Rebekah’s, a 46-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, was active in the Senior Spectrum, Searsport Senior Citizens, the Round-Abouts, the PTA, and the Maine Volunteer Program. She was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her. Arlene is survived by four sons, Keith Otis and wife, Terry, of Searsport, Paul Otis and wife, Sandi, of Colorado, Richard Otis and wife, Vickie, of Pennsylvania, Norman Otis and wife, Judy, of Searsport; daughter, Sandra Otis-Anderson of Searsport; 11 grandchildren, Craige Grindle, Aaron Grindle and wife, Jennifer, Darrell Otis, Kelley Kessler and husband, Jerry, Matthew Anderson, Chad Otis, Travis Otis, Ryan Otis, Jessica Trundy, Tara Harvey and husband, C.J., Jason Fuller; four great-grandchildren, Shane Grindle, Mariah Grindle, Maggie Harvey, John Harvey; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Eugene F. Otis in 1995; five brothers, Kenneth, Lloyd, Cyrus, Loren Jr., and Otto; seven sisters, Marilla, Doris, Gertrude, Gladys, Ethel, Ruth Ann, and Hazel. Visitation for family and friends will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 8, 2004, at the Young Funeral Home, 31 West Main St., Searsport. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, at the First Congregational Church of Searsport, with the Rev. Arlin Larson officiating. Interment will be in Gordon Cemetery, Searsport.
