ORRINGTON – Arlene Glidden, 83, wife of the late Albert L. Glidden Jr., died Feb. 14, 2007, at a Bangor health care facility. She was born Oct. 14, 1923, in Orrington, the daughter of Charles R. and Alberta E. (Treworgy) Howard. Arlene married Albert Glidden Jr., Sept. 15, 1944, and was a devoted wife, mother and truly enjoyed being a homemaker and partner with her husband. She enjoyed square dancing, camping, fishing, flying, snowmobiling and working beside him building three homes together before his death in 1980, She was a member of the Orrington Center Church. Arlene is survived by three children, one son, Reginald A. Glidden and his wife, Janice, of Orrington, two daughters, Dr. Charlotte E. Loew and her husband, James, of Salem, N.H., and Sugene Gavrisheff and her husband, Alex, of Great Falls, Mont.; seven grandchildren, Mark R. Glidden and his wife, Trudy, Melissa J. Spahr and her husband, Timothy, all of Orrington, Dr. Burr J. Loew and his wife, Marianne, of Portland, Jenny E. Loew of Plaistow, N.H., Aaron T. Loew of Salem, N.H., Margaret “Greta” Gavrisheff of Los Angeles and Katherine “Katie” Gavrisheff of Great Falls, Mont.; three great-grandchildren, Kyle Zachery Glidden, Kierra Grace Glidden and Lee Reginald Spahr, all of Orrington; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Howard and Eunice Baldwin, both of Orrington, Mary Long-Herzog of New York and Virginia Glidden of Bangor; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four brothers, Forrest Long, James, Roger and Robert Howard; and one sister, Ruth Simpson. Friends are invited to visit 1-2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 19, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. with the Rev. Albert Buzzell, Th.M., pastor and teacher, officiating. Interment will be in the spring at Dean Hill Cemetery, Orrington.
