MIDDLETOWN, N.J. – Arlene L. Sparrow, 67, died May 16, 2005, at Riverview Hospital in Red Bank, N.J. She was born Dec. 31, 1937, in Monticello, to William and Alta Lowry. She graduated from Ricker Classical Institute in Houlton, and from Northern Conservatory in Bangor. She played flute in the Bangor Symphony Orchestra. Arlene was a music teacher and a grade school teacher in Florida and in New Jersey. She was an accomplished classical pianist and an artist. She had many interests; she loved nature, was an avid sailor, and a licensed pilot. She had a wonderful sense of humor, and most of all, loved caring for and being with her family and grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Alexander Lowery of Monticello. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Theron “Harry” Sparrow; her daughters, Laura Sparrow-Kelly and her husband, Jerald “J.C.” of Middletown, N.J., and Amy Oster and her husband, Richard, of Port Monmouth, N.J.; five grandchildren, Lori, Richie, Harrison, Tyler and Ryan; her sisters, Louise London and her husband, Floyd Smith of Houlton and Marie Hanson of Hadley, Mass.; her brother, Keith Lowry and his wife, Sylvia, of East Millinocket; her sister-in-law, Norma Lowery of Monticello; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Visitation hours will be 6-9 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2005 at The John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Road, Middletown, N.J. Funeral services will be offered 10 a.m. Saturday, May 21, at the Middletown Reformed Church, 121 Kings Hwy., Middletown, N.J. Burial will be held at a later date in Orono.
