BLUE HILL – Arlene M. Stover, 90, died Aug. 27, 2005, at a Blue Hill hospital. She was born Oct. 31, 1914, in Blue Hill, the daughter of Harvey J. and Annie M. (Robertson) Stover. Arlene attended Blue Hill schools and graduated from George Stevens Academy in 1932. She attended Gorham Normal School (now University of Southern Maine) receiving a bachelor of science in elementary education in 1938. In 1967, she received a master’s degree in education from UMO. She taught school in many, many areas of the state, serving on numerous boards and retired in 1974. She volunteered at many places, such as Penobscot Nursing Home and Blue Hill Hospital. Arlene enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, cooking, working in the garden, visiting friends and tending her house plants. She is survived by cousins and several dear close friends and depended greatly upon her cousin, Raymond Robertson. She was predeceased by her husband, George A. Stover in 2000. Calling hours will be held 3-5 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2005, at Jordan-Fernald, 141 South St., Blue Hill. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 1, 2005, at the Blue Hill Congregational UCC Church, Blue Hill, with the Rev. Rob McCall officiating. Interment will be at Seaside Cemetery, Blue Hill. Those who desire may make contributions in Arlene’s memory to the George and Arlene Stover Scholarship Fund, or to George Stevens Academy, 23 Union St., Blue Hill, ME 04614.
