VAN BUREN and CARIBOU – Michael Shawn Smith, 33, died unexpectedly Aug. 25, 2005, at Caribou. He was born Jan. 15, 1972, in Caribou, the son of Robert and Meredith (Tainter) Smith Sr. Michael was employed for several years by County Abatement of Caribou, and more recently was employed by Pattison Sign. He married Sarah Brown Smith, March 20, 2004. Surviving in addition to his wife and father, both of Van Buren, are his four children, Makayla and Bryce Butler, and Rachel and Alec Smith, all of Presque Isle; his brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Marcella Smith, and his sister, and brother-in-law, Lisa and Arthur Brissette, all of Van Buren; a niece, Amy Brissette; several aunts, uncles and cousins, including a special aunt and uncle, Conrad and Rebecca Tainter. Michael was predeceased by his mother; and a brother, Robert Smith Jr. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St. Caribou. Funeral Services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30 at the funeral home with the Rev. Wesley McNeal officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.
