LEWISTON – Arnard “Bus” M. Glidden, 91, a resident of North Leeds, died Wednesday afternoon, June 8, 2005, at Central Maine Medical Center where he had been a patient since Monday evening. He was born Oct. 2, 1913, in Mars Hill, the son of Marion Herbert and Leah (Steeves) Glidden. He went to school in Lewiston and graduated from Lewiston High School. He served distinguishably as a Chief Warrant Officer in the U.S. Army in the European Theater during World War II receiving a bronze star for meritorious service. He worked as a senior tax auditor for the State of Maine until his retirement. Arnard was a member and past officer of the VFW Post No. 11032, a member and past lodge master of Monmouth Masonic Lodge Post No. 110 AF & AM, a member of The Scottish Rite Bodies in the Valley of the Androscoggin and also a local civil defense director. In his younger days he enjoyed hunting, fishing and had a strong interest in science. He was very close to his family and his many friends. He is survived by a sister, Willa LaPlant of Yarmouth; five nieces, Charline Oelfke, of Shirley, Mass., Leah Hodges of McCormick, S.C., Helen Lunt of Easton, Willa Beal of Mars Hill, and Margaret Beaufort of Ravenel, S.C.; a nephew, John LaPlant of Worcester, Mass.; a step-niece, Lucille McMahon of Watertown, Mass.; a great-nephew, Tim Glidden of Westfield; a great-niece, Kenna Prue of Westfield; and three cousins, Vivian Crabb, Ronald Wallace, and Emett Porter of Fairfield. He was predeceased by a brother, Donald Glidden. Funeral services with full Military Honors will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 18, at Bragdon-Finley Funeral Home, 707 Main St., Monmouth. The VFW Post No. 11032 and the Monmouth Masonic Lodge Post No. 110 AF & AM, will meet at 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Leeds Plains Cemetery, Plains Road, Leeds.
