WINTHROP – Arno Arlen Bittues Jr. died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, at Togus VA Hospital. He was born Sept. 10, 1933, the son of Arno Alden and Gladys Mabel (Worthing) Bittues. He grew up in Augusta and graduated from Cony High in 1951. After military service he returned to Augusta in 1960. In 1961 he began his career with the U.S. Postal Service, Augusta, retiring October 1988. A staunch Union man, Arno was involved in the Local, State and National American Postal Workers Union, serving in many capacities until his retirement. His retirement years were spent on Cobbossee Colony Golf Course, as well as many of Maine’s other golf courses. Arno enjoyed his hobby of golfing and golf club repair, and regripping. He was well known by friends and local golfers as Nottingham Golf Services. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Angelina (Hutchings) Bittues of Winthrop; his sons, Arno A. Bittues and his wife, Roxy, of Winthrop, Ira J. Bittues of Lewiston, Aaron A. Bittues and his wife, Wanda, of Carriere, Miss., and Anthony A. Bittues and his wife, Corie, of Winthrop; his daughters, Laura J. Bradeen and her fiance, Daniel Guay, of Greene and Elizabeth Hoke of Utah; his grandchildren, Lisa M., Hilary L., Alexander A., Luke Arno-Aaron, Raistlin M., Kasey R. Bittues, Sky L. and Tad R. Danforth; and his great-grandson, Oryan Bittues. At Arno’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral. His family is having a celebration of his life 1-5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at the family residence, 2 Robinhood Drive, Winthrop. Anyone wishing to attend is welcome. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his name to Winthrop High School Football Program, 400 Rambler Road, Winthrop, ME 04364.
