BANGOR – Arnold A. Fessenden Sr., 80, died peacefully April 2, 2008, at Maine Veterans Home. He was born Sept. 24, 1927, in Hermon, the son of Charles H. and Elsie M. (Freese) Fessenden. He served in two branches of the armed services, four years in the Navy and two years in the Army. After working in the shoe business for many years, he was proud to earn his high school diploma in 1987, at the age of 60. Arnold enjoyed watching New England sports teams, harness racing and in his younger years, was active in West Side baseball programs. Arnold was predeceased by eight siblings, Nellie, Alice, Harold, Elsie, Benjamin, Albert, Francis and Marjorie. He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Catherine A. (McNeil); four children, Margaret, Arnold Jr., Stephen and Catherine, all of Bangor; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Clarence of Bangor; many nieces and nephews, including one special nephew, Eugene Crawford of Hampden. The family thanks the staff at Maine Veterans Home for their care of Arnold. Services will be private for the family.
