PATTEN – Arnold D. Porter, 79, died April 15, 2006, at Patten with his family by his side. He was born Aug. 18, 1926, in Mount Chase, the son of Wesley and Eva (Giles) Porter Sr. Arnold was a co-owner of Perkins & Porters’ Inc. for 15 years and was owner of Arnold D. Porter Inc. for another 15 years. He was a member of the Katahdin Lodge No. 98 AF & AM, York Rites, Scottish Rites, Anah Shriners of Bangor, Northern Penobscot Shrine Club, was on the board of Lumberman Museum and was the “Biscuit Cooker” for several years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family at his camp at Pleasant Lake and gardening. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Reona (Martin) Porter of Patten; six children, Donna and her husband, Wendell Roach of New Bedford, Mass., David and his wife, Raye Porter, of Stetson, Ruth and her husband, Joe Susee, of Kenduskeag, Beth Jennings and her partner, Michael Howlett, of Easton, Julie and her husband, Kevin DeMaere, of Houlton and Laurie Porter of Patten; 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Clinton, Raymond, Robert; three sisters, Betty Alward, Maxine Lawlor, and Irma Detour; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. He was predeceased by his parents, and one brother, Wesley Jr. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 21, at Bowers Funeral Home, Island Falls with Masonic services being held 7 p.m. by the Katahdin Lodge No. 98 AF & AM and funeral services being held 1 p.m. Saturday with Clayton Alward officiating.
