BAILEYVILLE – Arnold “Diz” E. Fountain, 79, died unexpectedly Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006, at his home. Diz was born July 8, 1927, in Calais, son of the late Frank and Delora (Reynolds) Fountain. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. Diz married Betty L. Cameron Aug. 8, 1959, in Milltown, New Brunswick. He was employed as a plant electrical engineer for Slater Steel in Fort Wayne, Ind., for more than 46 years. He took electrical engineering courses through Purdue University. Diz was a member of People’s United Methodist Church, Baileyville, where he videoed the church service every week. Diz was a member of the Amateur Radio Club, St. Croix Country Club, William T. Wren Post No. 23 American Legion, and since he was a glider pilot, he was a member of the Soaring Society of America. He enjoyed photography, R.C. airplanes, golfing, computers and playing pool. In addition to his parents, Diz was predeceased by a sister, Eva Taylor; and a brother, Gerald Fountain. Surviving are his loving wife of more than 47 years, Betty L. Fountain; his brother, Steadman Fountain and wife, Helen, of Lincolnville; a sister-in-law, Virginia Armstrong of St. Stephen; a special goddaughter, Heather Sprague; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at People’s United Methodist Church, 20 Third Ave., Baileyville.
