PORTLAND – Arnold Earl Duran, of 203 Walton St., went to be with the Lord, Sept. 23, 2004, as a result of complications from heart surgery, with his family at his side, Arnold was born on Aug. 19, 1920, in East Corinth, to Earl E. Duran and Florence Marshall Duran. Arnold was predeceased by his sister, Eunice Duran Trask; and a brother, Lawrence F. Duran. Arnold grew up in East Corinth and graduated from East Corinth Academy in 1939. He was a high school athlete participating in cross-country, basketball and baseball. He served in the armed forces during World War II in the Navy and later in the Army Reserve. After leaving the service he was employed by the City of Hartford, Public Transportation Department as a bus driver leaving to join Continental Trailways as a driver for their premium bus service “Silver Eagle” where his fast whit and charm delighted his passengers. Arnold continued driving until his retirement in 1982. Arnold was a 50-year member of the American Legion Post 115 in Corinth, Maine. Arnold is survived by his wife, Ella Bean Duran; by a daughter and three sons and their spouses, Janice and Jim Benjamin of Raymond, Ter-rence and Karla Duran of Corinth, Barrett and Jody Duran of Falmouth, and Kevin and Carol Duran of Biddeford; ten grandchildren, Candice Tardiff, Robin Roberts, Butch Cheverie, Terri Jean Lounsbury, Jason Duran, Jarrod Duran, Kevin Duran Jr., Tyler Duran, Ethan Duran and Laura Duran; eight great-grandchildren, Annya and Lara Lounsbury, Courtney and Danielle Tardiff, Neil and Bryan Roberts; Matthew Brayley and Josh Doane. Visiting hours will be held 10 a.m.-12 noon Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004, at the Thompson Funeral Home, 17 Hudson Road, Corinth, with a funeral service immediately following. Interment will be at Corinthian Cemetery in Corinth. Those who wish may honor his memory through contributions to the American Legion Post 115 in Corinth, Maine.
