GORHAM – Arthur H. Fogg of New Portland Road died Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, following a long illness with pulmonary fibrosis and other complications. He was born in Gorham, July 22, 1920, the seventh of 10 children of Asa Rand and Edna Emery Fogg. He attended schools in Gorham. In his early years, he worked for his eldest brother, Donald A. Fogg (D.A. Fogg Excavating) for 14 years. During that time one his jobs was to help build the South Portland Shipyard. Later, Arthur worked as a crane operator for five years where the Liberty ships were being built, and in later years, attended the Shipyard Reunions. After the war, Arthur found work at S.D. Warren Paper Mill, where he was employed for 31 years, where he operated a trimming press. He enjoyed dividing fractions, which came very natural to him. In 1953, in addition to the mill work, he started another business. His trucking business that changed names after his children were born, became Arthur H. Fogg and Sons Rubbish Removal. In 1984, he retired from S.D. Warren now known as Sappi, to devote more time to his growing business. In 1989 Arthur, along with his family, sold the business with more than 1200 accounts to Orman Cummings, who later changed the name to Enviropac located in North Windham. In 1949, he married his beloved wife the former Jane Lefebvre of Westbrook. Before they were married, Arthur and Jane built and furnished their home and it was paid for prior to their wedding. Arthur enjoyed his woodworking shop, building rockwalls and cherished time spent with his family at gatherings. He enjoyed sharing stories from his grandfather and purchased a truck that was a replica of the one his grandfather had left him, showing the antique truck in several parades. He would often share stories of growing up in the great depression. He attended Mass with his family for 50 years, even though he was not Catholic. He had agreed with his wife, Jane, to raise their children in the Catholic faith. He was predeceased by a son, Thomas Asa Fogg, who died Oct. 4, 1997; and later his beloved wife, Jane, who died Aug. 24, 1999. He is survived by one son, David Arthur Fogg and his companion, Anthony S. Fusco, of Gorham; one daughter, Sara Jane Fogg Barker and her husband, Stephen R. Barker, and their son, Andrew S. Barker of Westbrook; also the children of the late Thomas Asa Fogg: Dustin T. of Gorham, Courtney E. of Sebago Lake, and Arthur “Robert” of Portland; one brother, Walter R. Fogg of Westbrook; as well as many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held 4-8 p.m. Friday, Jan 2, the Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, Jan 3, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, 299 Main St., Gorham. The Rev. Laurence Conley will be the celebrant. Spring burial will be in Eastern Cemetery, Gorham. If desired, those who wish may make contributions in Arthur’ s name to the Arthur and Jane Fogg Memorial Scholarship Fund, care of Mrs. Brenda Caldwell, Town Clerk, Town of Gorham, 270 Main St., Gorham, Me. 04038.
