BREWER and BANGOR Arthur L. Franks, 87, passed away March 15, 2005, at his home. He was born May 14, 1917, in Brewer, the son of the late Ira and Grace (Morgan) Franks. He was raised and educated in Brewer and graduated from Brewer High School in 1934. He proudly served his country during World War II from 1941-1945. Upon his return from the service he began work at New England Telephone Company where he spent 33 years working at various positions, before retiring in 1979. While working for NET, he served several years as Recording Secretary for the IBEW local union. During his life, he was an avid New England sports fan, particularly of the Red Sox, Celtics and Patriots. During the 1960’s Arthur served several years as the league secretary for the Brewer Little League. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4917, the Ralph J. Pollard Lodge No. 217 AF & AM of Orrington, and the Telephone Pioneers of America. Arthur was married to his beloved wife, Nathalie (Burnett) for 59 years. He is survived by a brother, Clifford M. Franks of Bangor; a daughter Terras Corbett of Bangor; a son, Richard Franks and his wife, Suzan, of Hernando, Fla. He also leaves five grandchildren, Rob Smith, Jamisen Franks, Justin Franks, Jennifer and her husband, Phillip Whitmore, and Daniel Corbett; several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2005, at Brooking-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, with the Rev. Constance S. Chase Wells, pastor of First Congregational Church of Brewer, officiating. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until time of service. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments following the services to the Brookings-Smith Reception Rooms, Brewer. Spring Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer.
