ABBOT and CARMEL Arthur O. Leonard, 83, died April 22, 2004, at a Waterville hospital. He was born April 6, 1921, at Rockwood, a son of Arthur F. and Rita (Claire) Leonard. Arthur moved to Carmel with his family as a young man and attended school there. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps, U.S. Army, Navy and Marines during World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Arthur was also the oldest member of the Oakland American Legion. He enjoyed fishing from his home on Piper Pond; and with his brothers and friend, Charlie, on Brassua Lake. He is survived by a daughter, Donna and husband, Phil Jellerson, of Lurry, Va.; two brothers, Walter Leonard of Sidney and Norbert Leonard of Fairfield Center; a sister, Claire Leonard of Oakland; five grandchildren; six great- grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Roberta; and brother, Richard. Friends may call 6-9 p.m. Sunday, April 25, at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main St., Newport, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday with Pastor George Finnemore officiating. Burial and committal services will follow at 1 p.m. at the Fr. LeClair Chapel, Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, (original cemetery) Augusta.
