BANGOR – Arthur Raymond Ellingwood Sr. died May 29, 2007, at a local health care center. He was born Jan. 21, 1907, in Maine, son of William and Nettie (Howard) Ellingwood. Ray was the youngest of seven children, four boys and three girls. He attended Glenburn schools. He quit school after the seventh grade to stay home and take care of the animals on the farm. He was employed with the New England Tel & Tel in 1924 at age 17. Ray worked as a lineman and eventually as a foreman of line crews retiring in 1967 after 43 years. He was a member of St. Andrews Lodge No. 83 AF & AM of Bangor, Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Bangor, Maine Consistory 32nd degree and Anah Shriners of Bangor. Ray was also a life member of Triumph Lodge IOOF-19 of Hermon, a life member of PLEIADES Grange No. 355 of Glenburn, a life member of the Penobscot County Conservation Club, and a member of Telecom Pioneers. Ray was an avid outdoorsman, hunter, enjoyed fishing, gardening, cutting wood on his property and snow plowing. Surviving are two daughters, Jacqueline Lang of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Ruth Casper of Vallejo, Calif.; four grandchildren, Alfred Lang of Colorado, David Ellingwood of Virginia, and Kenneth Casper and Susan Casper, both of California; six great-grandchildren, Cary Lang and Jared Lang, both of Colorado, Emily Casper and Molly Casper, both of California, and Frank Ellingwood and Ray Ellingwood, both of Virginia. He was predeceased by his wife, Mildred (Megquier) Ellingwood; a son, Arthur R. Ellingwood Jr.; three sisters and three brothers. Friends may call 5-7 p.m. Sunday, June 10, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 11, with the Rev. Stephanie Salinas, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Bangor, officiating. Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments after the service Monday at Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor.
