VERONA ISLAND – Christine V. Lyon, 89, died April 27, 2007, at a Blue Hill hospital. She was born Oct. 17, 1917, in Charleston, S.C., daughter of William Robert and Ida (Hollingsworth) Singleton. She had a brother, Floyd Carl Singleton; and a sister, Lillian B. Singleton. On June 27, 1953, she married the love of her life, Robert Andrew Lyon. They lived in Goleta, Calif., and together they enjoyed scuba diving in the Pacific Ocean off of their boat, the Sea Lyon and flying airplanes. Robert passed away June 28 1973, and after his death, she bought a house on Verona Island, where she had lived and made it her home. She always had a great love for cats and Sheba was a loyal companion that she loved very much. A wonderful seamstress, Christine had made 50 Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls that are enjoyed throughout many states now, and also made hundreds of American Girl doll outfits. Doing little things for others was what made her happy. She loved to entertain and have tea parties and it was always her dream to open a tea house on Verona Island. She enjoyed reading and she was the best cook, and always made pastries for everyone. She delivered many pies to the Bucksport True Value Hardware Store for everyone to enjoy. She was a truly cherished member of both the Verona Women’s Club and The Verona Garden Club, always willing and eager to do her part. Her motto was, “I want to wear out-not rust out.” Christine was truly admired and loved by all who knew her, and will be sadly missed. Survivors include her sister-in-law, Elsie Jacobs, a niece, Karen Jacobs-Elton; a great-nephew, Timothy Elton; a great-niece, Chelsie Elton, all of Bremerton, Wash.; a niece, Carolyn Keller; and a nephew, Ethan Keller, all of Utah; and many, many friends from all over the world. Arrangements by Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport. I shall pass through this world but once. Any good therefore that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it for I shall not pass this way again.
