PRESQUE ISLE – Audrey Elizabeth (Thompson) Somerville, 90, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007, at a Caribou health care facility after a brief illness. She was born April 22, 1916, in Aroostook County, the daughter of Audbur E. and Lydia E. (Mersereau) Thompson and grew up in the Houlton area. After high school, she went to Worcester, Mass., where she trained and became a registered nurse at Worcester City Hospital. There, she later married Edmund Burke and had two daughters, Cynthia Burke and Elizabeth Burke, who currently live in New York City. On Oct. 21, 1961, she married Robert Borden Somerville, MD, and lived in Presque Isle where she was an active member of her community. She loved athletics, particularly golf, often becoming champion in the senior women’s division at the Presque Isle Country Club. She was the stepmother to Robert Jr., Richard and Susan Somerville. In addition to her daughters and stepchildren she leaves two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held this summer at the Presque Isle Congregational Church, United Church of Christ. Arrangements in the care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, Presque Isle.
