ASHLAND – Allen M. Bragdon, 80, died Jan. 17, 2007, at a Caribou hospital after a long illness. He was born Dec. 18, 1926, in Ashland, the son of Minot and Willa (McGaughey) Bragdon. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Italy. Allen was self-employed as a carpenter and homebuilder. He was a member of the LeBlanc-Junkins VFW Post No. 9699 of Ashland. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening and was best known in recent years as the “Pumpkin Man” because of his passion for growing large pumpkins and watching children pick out just the right one. He will be long remembered in the Ashland area as an accomplished carpenter and homebuilder and he prided himself on the many homes he and his son, Don, built together. Allen is survived by three sons, Michael Bragdon and his wife, Sandra, of Presque Isle, Donald Bragdon and his wife, Dale, of Waldoboro, Robert Bragdon and his wife, Susan, of Warren; two daughters, Susan Walton of Presque Isle, Rebecca Wardwell and her husband, David, of Ashland; one brother, Clifford Bragdon of Indiana; five sisters, Julia Ellis of Ashland, Betty Ellis, Natalie Maynard, and Ada Ellis, all of Castle Hill, Rachel Pinette of Portage Lake; one sister-in-law, Mary Bragdon of Osterville, Mass.; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and many life-long friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Joyce (Sutherland) Bragdon in 1997; two brothers, Thurston and Aubrey; and his great-grandson, Mason Quinn Bartley. Relatives and friends may call 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Stimson-Ouellette Funeral Home, 114 Exchange St., Ashland. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Monday at Ashland Advent Christian Church with the Rev. William Harris, pastor, officiating. Spring interment will be at Ashland Municipal Cemetery.
