CALAIS – Augusta C. “Gussie” LaPointe, 87, of Calais, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, at Calais Regional Hospital. She was born Aug. 11, 1916, in Waltham, Mass., the daughter of Joel and Jessie (Gobey) Gardiner. Gussie married John C. LaPointe Sr. on July 3, 1938. She was a member of St. Anne’s Episcopal Church in Calais. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband on Nov. 10, 1964; three brothers, Sidney F., Frederick J. and George H. Gardiner; and a sister, Marion Hartwell. Surviving are two sons, John C. LaPointe Jr. and his wife, Rena, of Machiasport, and Gerald LaPointe of Calais; brother, Richard J. Gardiner of Newton, Mass.; three grandchildren, Kelli McNally and her husband, Scott, of Machias, John C. Lapointe and his wife, Sheila, of Calais and Julie Graham and her husband, Steven, of Marion; seven great-grandchildren, Mark, Michael and Matthew Little, John III and McKenzie LaPointe, and Emily and Kaitlyn Graham; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, Calais, with the Rev. John Matheson officiating. Burial will follow in Calais Cemetery.
