VAN BUREN – Augustin S. Cormier, 83, died Nov. 2, 2005, at Maine Veterans Home, Caribou. He was born Aug. 6, 1922, in Van Buren, the son of Cyr and Anna (Levasseur) Cormier. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator for many years at the former Loring Air Force Base until his retirement. Mr. Cormier was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion, Levasseur-Farrell Post No. 49 of Van Buren. He was also a former member of the Knight of Columbus Council 1635 of Van Buren. He was well known as an artist and sign painter in the area for many years. He is survived by three sons, David Cormier and Edwin Cormier, both of Albuquerque, N.M. and Phillip Cormier of Paris, Ky.; three daughters, Jeannine Gauvin of Bristol, Conn., Jeannette Corriveau of Hartford, Conn. and Bernadette Wentworth of Colchester, Conn.; four sisters, Yvonne Caouette of St. Basile, N.B., Canada, Beatrice Saucier of North Windham, Conn., Pauline Lachance of Biddeford, and Rolande Godbout of Montreal, Quebec; one stepsister, Genevieve Ouellette of Berkshire, Mass.; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Rita (Caron) Cormier, in 1985; two sisters, Rosella Vaillancourt and Armina Rault; three brothers, Henri, Patrick and Willie Cormier. Relatives and friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. until time of service on Saturday at the Ouellette-Thibault Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at the St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church. Committal service and interment will be in the parish cemetery.
