CONLEY ORRINGTON and BANGOR – Chester Earl Conley, 87, died Nov. 2, 2005, at a Bangor health-care facility. He was born Oct. 18, 1918, in Caribou, the son of Wesley Bates and Annie Mary (Plecity) Conley. Chester worked in construction as a heavy equipment operator and on a dairy farm. He worked in Limestone as a bulldozer operator for several years. Chester served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II stationed in the European Theater as a tank driver. He went from Normandy to Germany and was involved in the Battle of the Bulge and several other military engagements. Chester was a member of the East Orrington Congregational Church and played in the Dart Ball Team. The family would like to thank the staff of E-unit of Maine Veterans’ Home for the love and care that he received as a resident there and by the C-unit for the excellent end of life care that was extended to him and his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Evelyn (Costley) Conley; stepchildren, Eugene Pomeroy and wife, Betty, of Howland, Sharon Blais and husband, Denis, of East Greenbush, N.Y. and Patty Gilbert and husband, Kenny, of Orrington; brothers and sisters, Pearl Bourgoine of Bangor, Ralph Conley of Bangor, Margaret Tardy of Bolston, Mass., Wesley Conley Jr. of Walcott, Conn., Lester Conley of Royal Oak, Mich. and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Florence; a daughter Patricia; by 10 brothers and sisters, and step-grandchildren, Shawna Jean and Terri-Lynn Gilbert. He will also be fondly missed by the residents and staff of Maine Veterans’ Home. Funeral services will be held noon Saturday, Nov. 5, at Brookings-Smith Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, with the Rev. Adam Soderberg, pastor of the East Orrington Congregational Church, officiating and A Chaplaincy Prayer Service will be completed by the Orrington VFW Post No. 4527. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 10 a.m. Saturday until the time of the service. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Brookings-Smith Reception Rooms, 55 South Main St., Brewer, following the service. Interment will be at Fairmont Cemetery, Presque Isle. Gifts in his memory may be made to the Maine Veterans’ Home, E-unit Activities Fund, 44 Hogan Road, Bangor ME 04401.
