PRESQUE ISLE – Avril C. Blair, 79, died early Wednesday morning, April 25, 2007, at a Caribou health care facility. She was born April 23, 1928, in Ashland, the daughter of Raymond and Martha (Bragdon) Colbath. Avril worked several years at Potato Service, Inc, Converse Shoe Co. and at McCain Foods. She loved to knit gloves and give them away as gifts, and enjoyed making homemade donuts and buckwheat pancakes. She was an avid bingo player at the Knights of Columbus hall, Presque Isle. She was predeceased by her husband, Angus in 2005; two sons, Rodney and Norman Blair; a grandson, Mark McPherson; and a special cousin, Geraldine Monette. Avril is survived by five daughters, Marjorie McPherson of Presque Isle, Virginia Burpee of Smyrna Mills, Brenda Wentworth and Karen York, both of Ashland, and Wendy Hunt of Phoenix; two brothers, Darrell Colbath of Eaton, Ga. and Ruel Colbath of Ashland; four sisters, Alicia Burby of Ashland, Maxine Shell of Alaska, Marquerite Haines of Vernon, Conn., and Sandra McHatten of Castle Hill; 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; special friends, Ray and Marie Heir, Herb and Marie Olson, Alva Beckwith and her companion, Charlie. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at a later date at Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle. Donations may be made in her memory to the charity of one’s choice.
