BURNHAM – Barbara Ellen Houston, 79, a resident of Troy Road, died peacefully Monday, Nov. 20, 2006, surrounded by her family at a Pittsfield hospital. She was born May 23, 1927, in Pittsfield, a daughter of Oral D. and Abbie K. (Cameron) Small. Barbara graduated from Maine Central Institute, Class of 1945 and was employed by North East Shoe, Pittsfield. She later operated a convenience store in Burnham with her late husband, Everett Houston. Together they started an auction business in Burnham that is still operating today by their daughter and family. She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Joy Brooks and her companion, Ronald Hicks, of Plymouth; a grandson, Shane Brooks of Burnham; a granddaughter, Kim Shorey and her children, Ryan and Adam Shorey of Newport. She is also survived by a friend, Daniel Brooks of Burnham, whom she loved as a son and his companion, Frances Fisher. Visiting hours will be held noon-2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24, at the Donald H. Shorey Funeral Chapel, 35 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Village Cemetery, Peltoma Avenue, Pittsfield, with the Rev. Jon Ouellette officiating. Friends are invited to attend a gathering at Pamela and Ron’s, 366 Etna Road, Plymouth, immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers, friends may make memorial contributions in Barbara’s memory to National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Maine Chapter, P.O. Box 8730, Portland, ME 04104. Arrangements are entrusted to Donald H. Shorey Funeral Chapel, 35 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield.
