HAYNESVILLE – “No matter how hard it is to die, it’s worth living” were words quoted by Glenda J. Howland, 60, as she lost her courageous battle with cancer, Nov. 21, 2006, at a local hospital with her family by her side. She was born Nov. 7, 1946, in Haynesville, the daughter of Fred and Thelma (York) Mailman. Glenda was a very loving and devoted mother and grandmother who cherished time spent with her family. She had a passion for farming and was a member of the Northern Aroostook Homesteaders. Glenda loved all animals, especially her dog, Rosco, who was always at her side. Glenda’s charismatic personality left a lasting impression on all who met her. Glenda is survived by her loving husband, Roger M. Howland; three sons, Roger A. Howland and his wife, Angie, of Haynesville, Todd Howland and his wife, Julie, of Eddington, Jason Howland and his wife, Nikki Roy, of Houlton; 10 adoring grandchildren, Adam Crawford, Erynne, Dylan, Mikyla, Hope and Faith Howland, Jill, Brooke, Sara and Luke Howland; one brother, Bernard Phelps; daughter-in-law, Mary Friel Howland; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; one sister, Rachel Nason; and one grandson, Roger Michael Howland. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Dunn Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday at Saint Mary of the Visitation Church with the Rev. Eddy Morin, celebrant. Interment will be in the spring. Friends and family are invited to gather at the Howland residence in Haynesville after the service.
