HOULTON – Barbara Jean Tilton, 61, is at peace after a long battle with a chronic illness. Barb will lovingly be remembered as a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas, she turned her compassion for people into a career by becoming a nurse in 1966. Barb passed away May 8, 2007, on the 42nd anniversary of her marriage to her husband, Bruce E. Tilton Sr. of Houlton. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a special brother, Virgil Phelps III and wife, Wendy Campbell of Wenham, Mass.; four children, Myra Lynn Leighton of Bradford, Bryan Tilton and wife, Marguerite, of Lincoln, Cynthia Williams and husband, John, of Houlton, Bruce Tilton Jr., and wife, Amanda, of Lincoln; 14 grandchildren, who were the apples of her eye, Danielle Blair and husband, Jeff, Laci and J.R. Gilmore, Michelle, Stephanie, and Bree-Anna Leighton, Savannah, Adrianna, Natalie, and Emily Tilton, Ashley Williams and Anthony Allen, Gabrielle and Kaitlyn Tilton; special aunts, Mary and LaVerne of Texas. She was looking forward to the arrival of a great-grandson, Jaydon Jean Scott Blair in September. She was predeceased by her daughter, Donna Suzanne Tilton; father, Virgil Phelps II; mother, Thelma Phelps; step-father, Alvah Read; brother, Raymond Phelps; and sister, Myra Phelps. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at Mattawamkeag Church of God with the Rev. Wade Shaefer officiating. Interment will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver, at a later date.
