BUCKSPORT – Barry A. Murchie, 67, went home to be with our Lord Jesus Christ Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, while surrounded by his loving family after a long illness. He was born Nov. 7, 1940, on his family’s farm in Ellsworth, the son of the Rev. Raymond and Doris (Moran) Murchie. He graduated from Bucksport High School, Class of 1959. Barry began work for the Fortin Brothers Garage, Bucksport, and later in the summer of 1964, started work at St. Regis Paper Mill. He worked at the paper mill for 29 years, until illness lead to his retirement. Barry loved children and was active for many years with youth sports programs in Bucksport. He was instrumental in the formation of Pop Warner Football and Bucksport Recreation Department. Barry is survived by his wife and best friend of 49 years, Regina; two precious daughters, Heidi Bailey and her husband, Christian, of Bucksport and Rebecca Murchie-Stone and her husband, Adrian, of Frankfort; grandchildren, Jaime “McLeaLea” Carmichael, Barry “Joey” Carmichael, Ryan Bailey, Sarrinna Stone, Cheyanne Stone and Abby Stone; a brother, John Murchie; brothers-in-law, Harold Hutchins, Terry Hutchins, whom he loved like a son, Chandler Wilson and Dick Moore; sisters-in-law, Mary Murchie, Brenda Moore, Joan Hutchins, Diane Hutchins and Linda Wilson; as well as many special nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Barry was predeceased by his parents, the Rev. Raymond and Doris Murchie; brother, the Rev. Robert Murchie; brothers-in-law, Lyman Hutchins, Clyde Hutchins, John Hutchins and Gordon Longely; parents-in-law, Alton and Cleo Hutchins and Josiah Paine Longely Jr. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, at Franklin Street United Methodist Church, Bucksport, with Pastor Peter Remick officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted for Bucksport Recreation Department, P.O. Box 718, Bucksport, ME 04416.
