ST. CLOUD, Fla. – Beatrice M. Frederick, 96, passed away Nov. 17, 2003, at the Plantation Bay Rehab and Living Center in St. Cloud, Fla. Beatrice was born Nov. 9, 1907, in Pittsfield, the daughter of Herbert L. and Myrtie (Hanson) Palmer. Growing up, she attended Pittsfield area schools. She was the Valedictorian of her Junior High School class and was Salutatorian at Maine Central Institute in her graduating class of 1925. Beatrice also attended Colby College. Upon graduation from Colby College in 1929, her peers voted her one of the ten most Outstanding Girls of their graduating class. After graduating from college, Beatrice taught English at the Waldoboro High School and later at Monson Academy for two years. Beatrice went on to become a member of the training class of the Boston Public Library for a year. She was a Librarian in the Boston Mass. Public Library for 36 years and retired as Head of the Children’s section of the Main Library in Copley Square. Beatrice married Antonio Philip Frederick on June 10, 1950. They lived in Dorchester, Mass. while working and later retired to a home in St. Cloud, Fla. She was active in the Presbyterian Women’s Activity Group. Beatrice was also a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, St. Cloud Women’s Club, the Program Group at the St. Cloud Health Care Center, and the St. Cloud Gardening Club. She is survived by her sister, Miriam Gates, of Charlestown, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Antonio P. Frederick; and sisters, Frances Palmer and Ruth Harribine. A funeral service will be held 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, 2003, at the Fisk Funeral Home in St. Cloud, Fla. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003, at the Village Cemetery in Pittsfield. Arrangements are under the care of Fisk Funeral Home, St. Cloud, Fla. and Donald H. Shorey Funeral Chapel, Pittsfield.
