SURRY – Beatrice N. Clough, 94, died Sunday, May 4, 2008, at Island Nursing Home. Beatrice was born May 3, 1914, in Jonesport, the adopted daughter of Leonard J. and Ella (Pervear) Candage of Brooklin. Beatrice had a big heart and was very giving to everyone. She enjoyed visiting the elderly and sending cards to the sick. She loved to bake and was known for her cream puffs and peanut butter balls. She was a 71-year member of Arbutus Grange No. 450 and a past member of Methodist Church, both in Surry. Beatrice worked for many years for Mr. and Mrs. Henry Becton in the summer in East Blue Hill. They were very special to her. Dr. Bob Nesbia and his wife, Ellie, were very special to her also. Never a week passed without a get well card from Ellie. She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Tuozzo of Surry; a daughter-in-law, Beatrice Carter of Florida; seven grandchildren, Linda Volpe, Robert Tuozzo, Debra Fitch, Larry Carter, Diane Hunter, Patricia Andresen and Michael Connolly; 21 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and special friends. She was predeceased by her parents; her first husband, Pearl Carter; second husband, John Clough; a son, Richard Carter; a stepdaughter, Helen Connolly; a brother, Aubrey Candage; a grandson, Sam Tuozzo; and a granddaughter, Suzanne Connolly. A special thanks to the staff of Island Nursing Home for their care and her bingo callers, Harry and Les, they made her day. Friends are invited to call 1-2 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth, with services 2 p.m. Private interment will be at Village Cemetery, Surry.
