PEMBROKE – Berla (Clark) Putney, 92, passed away peacefully July 9, 2008. She was born Sept. 15, 1915, in West Pembroke, the daughter of the late Lelia and Benjamin Clark. Berla was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She was a member of People’s Methodist Church, Lady’s Guild and Rebecca Lodge. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed being with her family and help-ing others. Berla and Charlie enjoyed living on their saltwater farm on Leighton’s Point, where they had many happy memories. They enjoyed sharing their vegetables and fruits with family and friends. The family has fond memories of the wonderful clambakes and picnics on the shore. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Charles; son, Orville; and several siblings. Berla is survived by her daughters, Lydia Johnson of Lake Worth, Fla., and Barbara Ward of Blue Hill; grandson, Kevin Piper of Blue Hill; granddaughters, Brenda Horton of Surry, and Karen Martin and her husband, Toby, of Milford; great-grandsons, Tabor Horton, Christopher Smith, Will and Sam Martin; sisters, Eleanor Hersey and her husband, Aubrey, and Carolyn Dudley, both of Pembroke; many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, July 12, at Clarkside Cemetery, Pembroke. Donations in Berla’s memory may be made to PAWS Humane Society, P.O. Box 182, Calais, ME 04619.
