PALMYRA – Bernard A. Charrier Sr., “B.C.”, 72, passed away unexpectedly June 3, 2005. He was born July 26, 1932, at Skowhegan, a son of Leon and Antoinette “Toni” (Poulin) Charrier. He was predeceased by his parents, his first wife, Marilyn; his aunt, Eva and uncle, Bob Lessard. He graduated from Skowhegan High School, Class of 1950. “B.C.” served as an Army medic and accountant during the Korean War. He was a livestock dealer for more than 50 years, and president of the Maine Livestock Dealers Association in 1987. He also worked for Agri Assets in Vermont as an agent for the State of Maine, and was a member of the Maine Farmers Bureau Association. He was influential in civic affairs, and was a selectman for St. Albans, and a School Board member for SAD 54. He enjoyed card games, camping, fishing, and hunting, but nothing made him smile like his 18 grandchildren. “B.C.” was well known across the Northeast farming community, from Pennsylvania to New Brunswick, and especially throughout Maine. He was widely respected as a superb judge of livestock. He loved the land and the people who worked it, and he thoroughly enjoyed socializing. Between visits from family, friends, and business acquaintances, his home was a beehive of activity. He had a hearty sense of humor and a quick wit, and his stories of his travels and how he “made a good trade” were informative and entertaining. “B.C.” is survived by his loving wife, Camilla; his mother-in-law, Mary Bessey of Clinton; four brothers, Ronald and wife, Susan, of Washington State, Francis and companion, Reggie, of Florida, Larry and companion, Duane, of Skowhegan, Rudy and wife, Linda, of Norridgewock; one sister, Judy of Arizona; his brother-in-law, Dale Gerald and wife, Carol, of Ripley; and his sister-in-law, Carlene Bessey and companion, Phyllis, of Palmyra. He is also survived by five sons, Bernard Jr. and wife, Sharon, of Brooks, Wayne and wife, Darlene of Waldo, David and companion, Lancey, of Detroit, Terry of Palmyra, Mark McKenney and wife, Nena, of Clinton; seven daughters, Debby Noonan and husband, Bob, of Canaan, Mary Charrier and companion, Danny Mack, of Detroit, Valarie Flanders and husband, Dana, of Plymouth, Dawn Takeuchi and husband, Tim, of Arizona, Lisa Boucher of Ohio, and Jean (Boucher) Blum of Arizona, Mary (McKenney) Bernatchez and husband, Glenn, of Clinton; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Visitation will be 3-5 p.m., (rosary at 3:30 p.m.) and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main St., Newport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, at Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church, Water Street, Skowhegan, with the Rev. Fr. Maurice Morin officiating. Burial will be in the family lot, Fairview Cemetery, Canaan. Donations in Bernard’s memory may be made to the Pine Tree Camp, P.O. Box 518, Bath, ME 04530.
