ORONO – Bernard Albert “Bernie” Corneil Jr., 69, died March 31, 2004, at his home in Orono. He was born Jan. 27, 1935, in Orono, the son of Bernard Albert and Evangeline (Baker) Corneil Sr. Bernie was a graduate of Orono High School, Class of 1953, and attended the University of Maine. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and retired as a civil engineer from the Maine Department of Transportation. Following his retirement he was employed by Sunrise Materials and Edwards and Kelsey. Bernie was a former member of the Maine State Employees Association and a member of the American Legion Post OHMH of Orono. Surviving are his loving wife of 45 years, Yayoi (Yoshizumi) Corneil of Orono; three children, John R. Corneil and his wife, Teresa, of Athens, Ala., Michael S. Corneil and his wife, Coleen, of Orono, Christopher M. Corneil and his wife, Jenny, of Orono; five grandchildren Dylan, Collin and Christian Corneil, all of Orono, Jordan and Carter Corneil, both of Athens, Ala.; two sisters, Jeanette Corneil of Freeport, Arlene Waddell and her husband, Ronald, of Connecticut; special nieces and nephews, Lorrah, Bradley, Terry, Jill and Lisa. Friends are invited to visit with the family 4-7 p.m. Friday, April 2, at Brookings-Smith, LaBeau Chapel, 72 Main St., Orono. Interment will be later in the spring at Riverside Cemetery, Orono. The family invites relatives and friends to share at a gathering for conversation and refreshments 11-2 p.m. Saturday, April 3, at the Penobscot Valley Country Club.
