PRESQUE ISLE – Bernard F. Carrier, 74, died peacefully April 30, 2007, while surrounded by family at a Bangor hospital. Bernard was born Aug. 26, 1932, the devoted son of Peter and Winnifred Carrier of Chapman. He graduated from Presque Isle High School in 1950 and enlisted in the U.S. Army, whereby he traveled and lived in various states. Upon returning to Maine, Bernard was employed as a dispatcher for Trombley Redi-Mix, and later continued in that position for Dragon Products. A lifelong outdoor enthusiast, Bernard enjoyed hunting and fishing; monitoring the weather; and sitting outside during the warm summer months. He was an outstanding mechanic and carpenter, not afraid to tackle the tough jobs. He could easily tackle the most simple home projects or car repairs, and then competently rebuild his home furnace. Bernard was a member of the Knights of Columbus and American Legion. Family and friends will remember his sense of humor, kindness towards others, love of coffee and inability to pass by any type of sweet treat without sampling. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marie Carrier; his four children, Michael Carrier, Debbie Higgins of Windham and her husband, Mark, Judy Martin of Boonsboro, Md., and her husband, David, and Tracy Carrier of Portland; his brother, Sidney Carrier of Hanahan, S.C.; and six grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held 9:30-10:45 a.m. Thursday at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Interment will be at St Mary’s Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of his wife to the Maine Alzheimer’s Association, 163 Lancaster St., Suite 160B, Portland, ME 04101-2406.
