BANGOR – Bernard J. Rice, 80, died May 17, 2005, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Feb. 23, 1924, in Clifton the son of James E. and Marion L. (Dodwell) Rice. Bernard worked for Bath Iron Works, the Bangor Shoe Company, and the Bangor School Department. He was a member of the Brewer Bowling League, and was an avid golfer. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his favorite friend “his Dog” Bullet. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Kathleen M. (Umphrey) Rice of Bangor; son, Bernard W. Rice and his wife, Rebecca of Brewer; daughter, Marion Sullivan and her husband, John of Ariz.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Robert T. Rice of Bangor; sister, Theresa O’Brien of E. Hartford, Conn.; sister-in-law, Margaret Allen; special friends, Patricia Murray, Cary Salls, and many close friends at the Freese’s building. He was predeceased by his son, Robert W. Rice; grandson, Ricky J. Rice; father, James E. Rice; brothers, George, William, Harold, Jimmy, and Earl Rice; sisters, Esther, Charlotte, and Mary Rice. The family would like to thank the staff, and his friends at Ross Manor for their care and support. Services will be private for the family.
