BRIDGEWATER – Bernice Leona Tompkins, 80, passed away Dec. 23, 2004, at a Houlton healthcare facility from a battle with cancer. She was born May 14, 1924, in Knoxford, New Brunswick, Canada, the daughter of Burtis and Mildred Davenport. She graduated from Mars Hill High School and was a homemaker and a mom. She will always be remembered for her cooking and especially her donuts. She was predeceased by her husband, Merlin Tompkins in 1999; also her brothers, Ray and Ralph Davenport; and a special sister, Opal Lenentine. She is survived by one daughter, Peggy Tompkins of Caribou; one son, Rodney Tompkins; and a very special granddaughter, Nicolette Pearl Tompkins of Bridgewater. Mom always had a special place in her heart for her “Great Niece” Bobbi Jo and niece Deanie, both of which we don’t know what we would have done without you. She is also survived by her best friend, Ruth, many other friends and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at Smith Cemetery, Bridgewater, later in the spring. Arrangements are in the care of Duncan Funeral Home, Mars Hill.
