SKOWHEGAN – Bernice W. “Bunny” Ames, 74, passed away June 8, 2006, at Maplecrest Rehabilitation and Living Center in Madison. Bunny was born March 8, 1932, in Pittsfield, the daughter of Harry J. Wright and Olive (Wood) Wright. She graduated from MCI in Pittsfield in 1950 and married Raymond P. Ames June 16, 1950, in Pittsfield. He passed away May 11, 2005. Bunny worked as a bookkeeper for Worthmore Feeds, Redington Hospital, Sampson’s Supermarkets, then Curtis Oil Co., before becoming a real estate broker for Century 21 in the central Maine area. She also spent time as a homemaker raising her three children. She enjoyed playing golf and going square dancing. She also enjoyed knitting, cooking, painting and gardening. She was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star and a past Worthy Matron in Pittsfield. Bernice is survived by three children, Calvin Ames and his wife, Cathy, of East Madison, Ginger Madore and her husband, Ronald, of Lamoine and Bradley Ames and his wife, Lori, of Skowhegan; six grandchildren, Laura and Cindy Madore, Reagan Ames and Breanna, Alexis and Sydney Ames; two brothers, Lawrence Wright and his wife, Ruth, of Pittsfield and LaForest Wright and his wife, Mary, of Hartland; one sister, Alice Fitts of Pittsfield; and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by one son, Phillip Russell Ames who passed away in 1972. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday, June 9, at Smart and Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave, Skowhegan. A funeral service will be held 5 p.m. Saturday, June 10, at Smart and Edwards Funeral Home, with a committal service after at Pinegrove Cemetery in Hartland.
