WASHBURN – Bertha Louise Green, 92, died at her home in Washburn on July 31, 2004. She was born April 6, 1912, in Crouseville, one of 14 children of Harvey and Blanche Brown. Brownie grew up in Crouseville and went to Washburn High School. She became a registered nurse and served Northern Aroostook County as a private duty nurse on typhoid, diphtheria, cholera, and infant care cases. She worked closely with Dr. Storer Boone at the Presque Isle Hospital until her marriage in 1941. She is the wife of the late of Nemie Green, a prominent farmer and businessman from Presque Isle who predeceased her in 1978. Brownie and Nemie lived in Presque Isle, Portage Lake, Cape Cod, Florida, and Washburn. She was a member of the Presque Isle Country Club and was an avid golfer into her 70’s. She enjoyed reading, baking, needlepoint, gardening and spending time with family. She is survived by three sons, Benjamin and his wife, Lynne, of Palm Beach Gardens Fla., Michael and his wife, Jill, of Chula Vista, Calif., and Peter and his wife, Gail, of Lincolnville; her six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Marjorie Farley. Brownie received wonderful care in her final days by Polly Albert, and Hospice of Aroostook. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at Crouseville Cemetery, Crouseville.
