CARMEL and MONMOUTH Martha I. ‘Mimi’ Schmidt, 87, passed away unexpectedly July 30, 2004, at Portland. She was born June 1, 1917, in Bellwood, Pa., the only child of Clarence E. and Nellie M. Nearhoof. She moved to Patten in 1963 with her family, owning and operating several sporting camps. Later in life she remained active and enjoyed shopping and caring for many pets, including some special horses of which she was so fond. Martha was an active member of the Carmel Union Congregational Church, the Carmel Senior Citizens and the Carmel Grange for many years, where she enjoyed her many special friends. A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Martha is survived by daughters, Donna Guiggey and her husband, Gregory, of Monmouth, and Glenda Snow and her husband, Jerry, of Brewer; three grandchildren, Velvet Guiggey and her fianc?, Jay Regan, of Boston, Mass., Bridget Lindsay and her fianc?, Matthew Olmstead, of Orrington, Jeremy Snow and his wife, Shelley, of Hermon; three great-granddaughters, Kayla and Sierra Snow and Brenna Lindsay. She will also be remembered by Emma and Adam Olmstead; and a very dear couple, Joni and Tony McCourt. She was predeceased by a daughter, Marjorie Lett; and a granddaughter, Stacey Griscom. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, at the Carmel Union Congregational Church, Carmel, with Pastor Burt Williams officiating.
