HOULTON – Bertha Mae Shaw started her walk on the Golden Road to God March 11, 2008, with her family by her side holding her hand. Bertha was born March 20, 1936, in Danforth, the daughter of George and Frances (Muncey) Cropley. She loved her childhood town of Danforth and loved to talk about the memories of growing up there. She loved doing crossword puzzles, puzzles and word searches. She also loved to play cards. Her beautiful laugh would fill the room when she did. She loved to sing. She loved to be around her family and the more the merrier. Her family was her life. She will be forever remembered by those who knew her as a person who had a wonderful sense of humor and a great personality that truly touched the people she came in contact with. She leaves behind five sons, Justin Hannigan and his wife, Pam, of Houlton, Max of Presque Isle, David and his wife, June, of Wiscasset, Mike and his wife, Tonia, and Harry and his wife, Shari, all of Houlton; four daughters, Ruth Van-deyar and her husband, David, of New York, Jamie Vose of Delaware, Bonnie Ames of Lewiston and Tammy Blan-chette and her husband, Peter, of Houlton; 24 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a special sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Chester and Molly Bailey. She also leaves behind her friends she made at Madigan Estates, who watched over and took care of her during her stay there and her Hospice workers, who sat with her, sang to her and showed her such kindness. She was predeceased by her husband, Max; her first husband, James Hannigan; one son, Richard; and her grandchildren, Sandi and Brandon Shaw. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Dunn Funeral Home. A service of Christian burial will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Saint Mary of the Visitation Church with Deacon Al Burleigh officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in the spring.
