SKOWHEGAN – Bertha Tibbetts, 61, passed away March 6, 2007, at her home. She was born Nov. 25, 1945, in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Harold and Lucy (Stiles) Sharpe. She was educated in Presque Isle schools and attended nursing school in Portland for three years, where she received a nursing degree. She married Bob Tibbetts in Madison, and Bob passed away Feb. 8, 2002. Bertha served her country as a nurse for the U.S. Army, serving in Houston. She then worked at a nursing home in Presque Isle as a registered nurse. She was also a homemaker for many years. She was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. She loved to garden in her flower and vegetable gardens. She enjoyed fly-fishing and was an avid reader. She especially loved her grandchildren. She is survived by two sons, Jon Rayborn and his wife, Jennifer, of Winslow and Michael Tibbetts and his wife, Margaret, of Lisbon Falls; a daughter, Michelle McGinnis and her husband, Lance, of Anson; seven grandchildren, Sylas, Braden, Grace, Katherine, Jon, Lance and Brandon; a brother, James Sharpe and his friend, Becky, of Presque Isle; two sisters, Hilda Carroll and her husband, Richard, of Florida and Peggy Wolcott and her husband, Kenneth, of New Hampshire; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 9, at Smart and Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, officiated by Pastor George Hodgkins. Interment will be held in the spring at Mount Rest Cemetery, Athens. Memorial contributions may be made in Bertha’s memory to the Somerset Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 453, Skowhegan, ME 04976.
